GREATER ACCRA REGIONAL MINISTER COMMENDS MAYOR OF ACCRA …AS HE TOURS THE METROPOLIS
Date :29th May, 2012
The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo popularly known as ‘Lion’ has heaped praises and words of congratulations on the Mayor of Accra, Hon. Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije for his vision for the City of Accra.“I confess I am completely stunned and at the same time impressed at the immense progress of work in the Metropolis as your work so far has swallowed my initial expectations of work on the ground,” this he told Hon. Vanderpuije.
Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo in the company of Mr. Alfred O. Vanderpuije, Directors and some selected staff of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) were on a tour to all eleven sub-metros of the Assembly to give the Minister firsthand assessment of work.
This is the first part of the Regional Minister’s tour of all Assemblies within the region after taking office from his predecessor and Member of Parliament for Korle Klottey, Nii Armah Ashietey in March this year.
The tour took the delegation through some notable project sites within the Metropolis particularly the M1 Cluster of Schools and the Salvation Cluster of Schools where works on the three-storey 18 unit classroom Millennium City Schools are almost complete.
According to Hon. Vanderpuije, a total number of 48 Millennium City Schools are currently under construction at different levels. He said the USAID has sponsored 4 of such schools as well as Intercontinental Bank and Zoomlion.
At the Lavender Hill, the Mayor reiterated his stern commitment to ensure that the place which he described as older than anyone of the people present there would be closed down by June this year to give way to 12 Digesters, 6 each to be stationed at Lavenda Hill and Achimota.
From there, the team inspected a 4km newly-constructed storm drain, a 28 km roadside drain, 14km road, and 250 street lights by Mr. Liao of the China Zhoug Hao Limited as well as the connection of water at Manponse in the Ablekuma South sub-metro.
Mr. Awolu Abass, Metro Roads Engineer of the AMA disclosed that the second face of the drain construction works at Abossey Okai in the Ablekuma Central would begin soon after the team had inspected works. He said 2.5km out of 4km road construction had been completed but total work is expected to be done by August 2012 this year.
He further advised against the dumping of refuse in the drains by residents and called for their cooperation whenever it was needed.
Nii Afotey Agbo however, appealed to Ghanaians to show enough appreciation whenever Government authorities undertook projects in their communities rather than suggesting for more to be done because ‘others must also benefit from the National Cake’.
At Darkuman in the Okaikoi South sub-metro, the site contractor Rejoice Esi Dorcoo pleaded with the Mayor and the Regional Minister to help demolish a building that was obstructing the path of her work after having received reports that the owners had been duly compensated but had failed to relocate.
The Sewerage Treatment Plant at West Legon which is expected to be handed over to the Government in August this year is more than 80% completed and will have the Institute of Professional Studies (IPS), University of Ghana, and the Presbyterian Secondary School (PRESEC) as first beneficiaries to come on board.
In addition, the team visited a road construction at Spintex behind Polo Court. Mr. Abass Awolu reported that the construction is about 85% completed and is expected to be completed by July 2012 this year. He said “the road construction is also expected to manage traffic on the Spintex-road by over 80%.
Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo in his final remarks, congratulated the Mayor and urged him saying ‘as long as I continue to be the Regional Minister, I will continue to offer you my full support in whatever venture you and your outfit wants to endeavour’.

16 team playoffs, which is what I-AA does.Teams get seeded by BCS Rankings.Games are held at the home stadium of the higher seed, until we have 4 teams left. Then the semifinals and finals are all held in one stadium (to be decided). If the teams played one game a week, the championship game could be finished by December 30th.There are no automatic bids. If a Conference Champ is somehow not in the Top 16 (not very likely in the BCS conferences) but another team from that conference has a bid, the conference can choose to send the conference champ instead of the at-large team, if they want to.The field this year would be: Ohio State, Florida, Michigan, LSU, USC, Louisville, Wisconsin, Boise State, Auburn, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Arkansas, West Virginia, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, and Rutgers. flight cheap auto insurance quote
