Chinese Embassy supports AMA with PPE

The Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of Accra, Mohammed Adjei Sowah has received a donation of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) from the Chinese Embassy in Ghana towards the fight against the coronavirus (COVID-19) in the city. 

 

The PPE which consists of 16,000 medical face masks and 100 infrared thermometers were donated by the Guangzhou Municipal People's Government to the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA). 

 

Mohammed Adjei Sowah expressed appreciation to the Chinese Government for the gesture adding that the supplies had come at an opportune time when such PPE were in need to protect the citizenry from the COVID-19 pandemic. 

 

He mentioned that as part of efforts to curb the spread of the virus in the city the Assembly had distributed about 40000 masks,  hand washing facilities and hand sanitizers among other PPE to low income and informal communities in Accra where a majority of the population do not have access to nose masks as well as health facilities and assured them of the City and government's support towards the fight against the pandemic. 

 

"We have also been supporting health facilities within the metropolis with PPE and assured them of the city and government’s support towards the fight against the pandemic. We now know how to curb the spread. We are looking forward to a vaccine soon in order to come out of this new normal...In low income and informal communities in Accra where a majority of the population do not have access to nose masks, we have distributed about 40000 nose masks, hand washing facilities and hand sanitizers and assured them of the City and government's support towards the fight against the pandemic."

 

Mayor Sowah also assured that the supplies would be used for its intended purpose.

 

Charge d'affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Ghana, Mr ZHU Jing, who presented the supplies said the Chinese people empathised and stand firmly by the Ghanaian people amidst the fight against the COVID-19. 

 

He assured that China was ready to work closely with Ghana to implement measures laid out by the Chinese President, H.E. President Xi Jinping at the Extraordinary China-Africa Summit on Solidarity against COVID-19 on June 17 promised to help Africa win the battle against the virus.
