15.Apr.2025

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has officially closed the application window for the second phase of the Youth Climate Action Fund (YCAF Phase II), marking a key milestone in the city’s efforts to promote youth-led climate initiatives.

According to the Assembly’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Gilbert Nii Ankrah, the deadline for the submission of applications was Monday, April 14, 2025.

He disclosed that the Assembly had received many proposals from various applicants over the past month.

“We have recorded an impressive volume of submissions from youth-led organizations, student innovators, and grassroots networks, spanning a wide range of thematic areas, including climate education, sustainable waste management, urban agriculture, renewable energy, and the development of green public spaces,” he said.

Mr. Ankrah emphasised that the close of the application period represents a major step in the city’s continuous effort to empower young people to lead innovative and community-based climate action projects. He further explained that a comprehensive review process would now commence to evaluate the proposals based on criteria such as innovation, feasibility, and alignment with Accra’s climate resilience goals.

“The selected projects will be announced soon”, he said, adding that  “Successful applicants will then receive support to implement their projects over six months.”

The PRO for the AMA expressed appreciation to all applicants and stakeholders who participated in the application process.

“We are grateful for the enthusiasm and commitment demonstrated by our youth and partners. The Assembly remains resolute in promoting youth inclusion in climate action and continues to prioritize bold, locally driven solutions to build a greener, healthier, and more resilient Accra,” he said.

He assured the public that further updates regarding evaluation outcomes and project implementation timelines would be shared via the Assembly’s official communication channels and through all major media platforms.
