‎The Mayor of Accra, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, has joined dignitaries for the official handover of the site to the contractor, marking the resumption of work and completion of the stalled Accra Sempe Basic School project in Jamestown, nearly 10 years after the facility was abandoned due to lack of funds.

‎The project involves the completion of a 40-unit classroom block intended to provide a safe and conducive learning environment for children in Sempe and surrounding communities within the Odododiodioo Constituency.

‎The old school structure was demolished to make way for the redevelopment project, but construction stalled, forcing some pupils to study in temporary wooden structures and contributing to school absenteeism in the community.

‎Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony, Hon. Allotey said the project must be completed before the end of 2026 and warned that the contract would be terminated and reassigned if the contractor failed to meet the deadline.

‎He said the completion of the school was close to his heart and stressed that the people of Sempe had waited for too long for the project to be delivered stressing  that he believed in action rather than empty promises.

‎He said the project was initiated during the tenure of former Mayor of Accra and current Member of Parliament for Ablekuma South, Hon. Alfred Oko Vanderpuije, and assured the contractor of the Assembly’s full support, cautioning that the project would be closely monitored to prevent further delays.‎

‎The Mayor disclosed that the Assembly was also pursuing the completion of other stalled projects, including the Ayalolo Cluster of Schools, the Makola 31 Clinic, the Akotolante Library, the Salaga Market and a project at Private Odartey.

‎The Member of Parliament for Odododiodioo said the revival of the Sempe school project followed sustained engagements with the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Education Trust Fund and the District Assemblies Common Fund.

‎According to the MP, the completed school would include an ultra-modern computer laboratory to support the teaching of Information and Communication Technology, artificial intelligence, and other modern subjects.

‎The former Mayor said the return of President Mahama and the appointment of Hon. Allotey had created an opportunity to complete the school and other abandoned projects across Accra.

‎The Sempe Mantse Nii Adote Otintor I  commended the government and the Accra Metropolitan Assembly for showing renewed interest in the project, stressing that the people of Sempe and the broader Ga community deserved equitable development and quality educational infrastructure.

‎The Sempe Mantse said the school project was so important to him that he had suspended the completion of his palace to focus attention on ensuring that the abandoned facility was completed.

‎The contractor assured the gathering that the remaining works would be completed within the agreed period.
