The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has charged newly posted National Service Personnel to uphold high standards of discipline, punctuality, integrity and professionalism, warning that absenteeism, lateness and breaches of workplace regulations would not be tolerated.
The directive was issued during an orientation programme held on Monday, November 2, 2026, to officially welcome the personnel and familiarise them with the Assembly's mandate, organisational structure, administrative procedures and workplace expectations.
Addressing the personnel, the Head of Human Resources, Madam Evelyn Owusu, stressed that strict adherence to official working hours, regular attendance and professional conduct were essential to maintaining efficiency and accountability in public service delivery.
She cautioned the personnel against absenteeism, lateness and misconduct, emphasising that they were expected to comply with the Assembly's administrative regulations and prescribed corporate dress code.
She urged the personnel to take their assignments seriously, demonstrate initiative and contribute meaningfully to the Assembly's operations throughout their service period.
A representative of the Human Resource Department, Mr Emmanuel Acquah, Esq., who took the personnel through the Assembly's historical development and legal framework, explained that the AMA's origins dated back to 1898, making it one of Ghana's oldest local government institutions.
Mr Acquah explained that the Assembly operated under Article 240 of the 1992 Constitution, the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), and Legislative Instrument (L.I. 2034), which defined its jurisdiction and functions.
He also outlined the responsibilities of the Assembly's departments and units, highlighting their roles in local governance, development planning, sanitation, revenue mobilisation and the delivery of essential metropolitan services.
The Head of Public Affairs, Mr Gilbert Nii Ankrah, who took the personnel through the operations of the Public Affairs Unit, underscored the importance of effective communication, digital media and public engagement in promoting the Assembly's programmes, policies and development initiatives.
He introduced the personnel to the Assembly's official social media platforms, particularly its @AccraMetropolis accounts, and encouraged them to follow the platforms to stay informed about ongoing projects, programmes and metropolitan activities.
He added that the growing use of social media presented opportunities for public institutions, including the AMA, to broaden their communication reach, improve public engagement and promote their activities to wider audiences.
