‎The Mayor of Accra, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, has joined the Kpatsakorle Mantse, Nii Ashie Komowuo II, Sub-Chief of the Nikoi Olai Stool/Family of Asere-Djorshie, to celebrate this year’s Homowo Festival.

‎The celebration brought together traditional leaders, family members, residents, and guests to commemorate two decades of Nii Ashie Komowuo II’s traditional leadership.

‎Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the celebration, the Mayor used the occasion to call for greater unity, brotherhood, and cooperation among the Ga people.

‎He stressed that unity among the people remained critical to accelerating development in the city, adding that Greater Accra had enormous potential as the capital region.‎

‎He said the Ga's were generally welcoming and supportive of others but needed to demonstrate the same level of appreciation, recognition, and solidarity towards one another.

‎He urged the people to use the Homowo season as an opportunity to put past disagreements behind them, strengthen family ties, and embrace a renewed spirit of togetherness for the development of Greater Accra.

‎Mayor Allotey also appealed to traditional leaders, particularly Nii Ashie Komowuo II, to continue praying for unity and peaceful coexistence among the Ga people, describing traditional authorities as important partners in promoting social cohesion and development.

‎According to him, families must strengthen relationships among themselves, with parents, children, and members of extended families recognising the need to remain connected and support one another.

‎Mayor Allotey maintained that the region could become one of the most developed in the country if its people remained united and worked collectively with traditional authorities, local government institutions, and other stakeholders.

‎Nii Ashie Komowuo II, for his part thanked the Mayor for joining the community to celebrate the Homowo Festival.

‎The Kpatsakorle Mantse expressed confidence in the Mayor’s ability to represent the community and also appealed to Mayor Allotey to continue championing the interests of the traditional community and convey its concerns and development needs to President John Dramani Mahama.
