The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) will join five other Local Government Service Institutions tomorrow to participate in the inaugural Regional Sports Festival, organised by the Greater Accra Regional Co-ordinating Council (GARCC).
The event, which aims to foster unity and promote physical fitness among the institutions will take place at the Prisons Park in Roman Ridge.
The AMA will be competing alongside the Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly (ONMA), La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly(LaDMA), Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly (AWMA), the Office of the Head of Local Government Service (OHLGS), and the Greater Accra Regional Co-ordinating Council (GARCC).
This first-of-its-kind festival in the Greater Accra Region is designed to encourage camaraderie and collaboration among the different assemblies through friendly competition.
The event will feature a variety of sports, including men's football gala and traditional games such as lime and spoon races, sack races, and a penalty shootout, specifically tailored for women.
This event was contained in a letter signed by the Chief Director at the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council, Mrs. Lilian Baeka who highlighted the importance of the event in a communication and stated that it was intended to build stronger bonds among the participating assemblies.
She added that the festival was expected to set a precedent for future sports events, potentially involving even more district assemblies, and urged all invited local government service institutions to actively participate, emphasizing the dual objectives of strengthening inter-assembly relationships.
