AMA takes delivery of new ultra-modern audio-visual information van

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has taken delivery of an ultra-modern audio-visual information van from the Information Services Department (ISD) to strengthen public education, community engagement and official communication across the metropolis.

The new multi-purpose vehicle is fitted with a high-powered public address system, mounted column speakers, two supporting loudspeakers and an audio mixer, as well as dual LED screens mounted on the left and right panels for the display of videos, graphics, educational materials and live broadcasts.

The upgraded mobile unit also features internal WiFi, broadcast feed integration and online streaming capability, allowing it to receive and relay live government broadcasts, national television feeds, emergency information and other official content in real time.

Receiving the van, the Mayor of Accra, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey expressed appreciation to the government and ISD, stressing that the intervention addressed a longstanding need for a functional information van to support the Assembly’s communication activities.

The Mayor assured that the Assembly would make good use of the vehicle and maintain it properly, cautioning that the van was not to be used for private or commercial purposes but reserved strictly for government business.

The Mayor said the vehicle would support the Assembly to better announce its programmes and project its activities to the public, especially sanitation campaigns and other interventions being undertaken within the city.

He said the van would go a long way to improve public awareness of the work of the Assembly and enhance communication between the local authority and residents.

Presenting the vehicle to the Assembly, the Greater Accra Regional Information Director, Madam Nana Yaa Agyapong explained that the vehicle was part of a broader initiative under which similar vans were being deployed to support communication activities in several assemblies across the country.

She said about fifteen assemblies would be using the van but noted that it would be stationed at Accra Metro as its base, making the Assembly a key point for its operations.

She pointed out that the presentation of the vehicle underscored the ISD's commitment to modernising public communication systems and enhancing grassroots engagement through improved outreach tools.

Other features of the vehicle include a centralised control system with a functional switch box and main power switch for managing audio, video, connectivity and power, as well as an attached platform for public speaking, live demonstrations and direct community interaction.

Its self-charging power system enables the van to function independently even in areas without a continuous external electricity supply, making it suitable for both urban and remote operations.
