Mayor of Accra inspects new paving works on sections of Kwame Nkrumah Avenue

Mayor of Accra, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey has inspected completed sectional repair and paving works on a section of Kwame Nkrumah Avenue in the Central Business District (CBD).

The completed works cover the U-turn area at Lava and the stretch between the Derby Avenue/Kwame Nkrumah Avenue intersection and the Selwyn Market Street/Kwame Nkrumah Avenue intersection.

The rehabilitation followed concerns over severe abrasions and potholes that had developed along the busy stretch, slowing vehicular traffic, and creating potential safety risks to pedestrians and other road users.

Speaking after the inspection, the Mayor described the intervention as an important step towards improving road safety, easing traffic congestion, and enhancing mobility within the city's commercial centre while expressing satisfaction with the work done.

He emphasised the importance of maintaining roads, adding that improving road conditions remained essential to facilitating commercial activities, reducing travel delays, and ensuring the safety and convenience of road users.

The Assembly has urged motorists and other road users to exercise caution, comply with road traffic regulations, and use the rehabilitated road responsibly to help preserve the improvements and ensure the safety of all users.

He was accompanied on the inspection by the Metropolitan Coordinating Director, Mr Douglas N.K. Annoful, and the Metropolitan Director of Finance, Mr Abeeku Amissah.

Prior to the beginning of the work, the Assembly announced the temporary closure of the affected sections to allow for critical repair works, including paving, aimed at restoring the road surface and improving its durability.

The completion of the works is expected to improve traffic flow around the Lava U-turn and the adjoining intersections, which serve as important access points for commercial vehicles, traders, and other road users operating within the CBD.

The intervention also forms part of broader efforts by the Assembly to address infrastructure challenges within the metropolis and create a safer, more accessible and orderly environment for businesses and the travelling public.
