Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of Accra, Mohammed Adjei Sowah, on Thursday paid a working visit to four (4) voter registration centres within the Okaikwei South constituency in the Greater Accra Region.
The Mayor who was accompanied by Mrs Dokoa Newman, New Patriotic Party, Parliamentary candidate for the area, as well as other officials from the assembly toured the Pentecost church (1, 2&3 ) Registration Centres, the Happy Home Academy (1&2) registration centres, Mountain of Faith Ministry ( 1&2) and the Kaneshie (1&2) registration centres.
At the centres visited registration officials informed the Mayor that there were low turn out and that majority of persons who had turned up to be registered had the Ghana Card and passports.
They also told the Mayor that although there were few challenges of some applicants not knowing their ages and the name of their hometowns the process had been generally smooth and peaceful.
The Mayor applauded officers for the successful completion of the registration exercise amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
" It has been six weeks and by the grace of God we are through, thanks for your service to the state, this country is grateful. Undertaking this exercise especially during this unusual time of COVID-19 is commendable, " he said.
He also urged all those who have not yet registered to do so during the mop-up exercise announced by the Electoral Commission (EC).
The nationwide Voters Registration exercise being undertaken by Electoral Commission (EC) is expected to officially end on Thursday, August 6.
However, a mop-up exercise will be done on Saturday, August 8 and Sunday, August 9.
The exercise, which started on June 30, was conducted in six phases in about 33,000 registration centres across the country.
The Okaikwei South Constituency shares boundaries with Okaikoi North constituency to the North, Korle Klottey constituency to the South, Ablekuma Central Constituency to the West and Ayawaso West constituency to the East.
