The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) and FanMilk PLC have signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding to adopt,green   and maintain selected roundabouts and public open spaces in the Accra Metropolis.

The agreement covers the NIA/FanMilk Roundabout near the company’s factory, the Kwame Nkrumah Circle Roundabout near the VIP Bus Terminal and the St. Mary’s Triangle.

Under the partnership, FanMilk will finance the design, landscaping, irrigation, cleaning and maintenance of the selected locations as part of efforts to support the Assembly’s “Beautify Accra” initiative.

The company is expected to complete the initial landscaping and beautification works within six months and maintain the sites throughout the duration of the agreement, which runs from July 15, 2026, to July 14, 2029.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Mayor of Accra, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, explained that private-sector participation would reduce the financial pressure on the government and accelerate the transformation of Accra into a cleaner, greener and more attractive city.

Hon. Allotey welcomed FanMilk’s participation and urged other companies and institutions to support the Assembly’s urban beautification programme describing Accra as a major gateway to Africa is setting the pace for others to follow.

The Mayor also expressed optimism that the agreement would open opportunities for further collaboration between the AMA and FanMilk in sanitation, environmental management and community development.

Managing Director of FanMilk West Africa, Mr Lionel Parent, said the partnership reflected the company’s long-standing commitment to the communities it served.

He said FanMilk had been part of Ghanaian homes, schools, neighbourhoods and marketplaces for more than six decades and therefore had a responsibility to contribute meaningfully to the country’s development adding that the project would transform high-traffic roundabouts into attractive and environmentally sustainable landmarks for residents and visitors.

He said the landscaped spaces would incorporate drought-resistant and water-efficient plants while supporting FanMilk’s “One Planet, One Health” sustainability agenda.

“This initiative is about much more than landscaping roundabouts. It is about contributing to a cleaner, greener and more beautiful Accra and creating public spaces that residents can be proud of and visitors can admire,” he said.

Mr. Parent noted that the development of cities could not be left to the government alone and called for stronger collaboration between public institutions and businesses.

He reaffirmed FanMilk’s commitment to working closely with the AMA to implement the project successfully and explore additional opportunities for sustainable community development.
