The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) will climax its 2026 Breast Cancer Awareness Month activities with a pink-themed departmental competition, breast cancer symposium, and screening exercise aimed at promoting early detection, raising awareness, and encouraging preventive healthcare among staff.

Dubbed "AMA Goes Pink," the event, scheduled for Friday, November 6, 2026, at City Hall, will feature a departmental "Wear Your Pink" competition where staff will showcase creativity and solidarity in the fight against breast cancer through coordinated pink outfits.

As part of the activities, participating departments will take part in a runway show, providing an opportunity for employees to demonstrate their commitment to breast cancer awareness while promoting teamwork and strengthening relationships across departments.

The event will also feature photoshoots to capture the colourful displays and highlight the Assembly's collective support for breast cancer awareness and advocacy, as well as a symposium to educate participants on the importance of early detection, regular screening and timely medical intervention in reducing the risks associated with the disease.

The symposium is expected to provide staff with relevant information on breast cancer, including potential warning signs, risk factors, and the importance of seeking professional medical advice when unusual changes are detected.

A breast screening exercise will also be organised as part of the programme to encourage employees to prioritise their health and take advantage of preventive healthcare services.

Head of Public Affairs,Mr. Gilbert Nii Ankrah, disclosed that the initiative forms part of efforts by the Assembly to promote a healthy workforce, strengthen health awareness, and encourage positive health-seeking behaviour among employees.

He said staff would dress in pink, the internationally recognised colour associated with breast cancer awareness, to demonstrate their support for individuals and families affected by the disease adding that the departmental competition is expected to add excitement to the programme while reinforcing the message that breast cancer awareness and prevention require collective action.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month, observed globally in October, provides an opportunity for institutions, healthcare professionals and advocacy organisations to intensify public education on the disease, promote early detection and encourage access to screening and treatment services.

The event will officially bring the Assembly's 2026 Pink October activities to a close under the theme of promoting breast cancer awareness through education, screening, and collective participation.
